Matt’s indomitable character showed even before he joined the USMC in 2009. Originally, Matt entered Paris Island in 2008 and near-completing the toughest basic training the US military has to offer, was sent home due to a serious injury. He was told he would never become a United States Marine due to the damage he had sustained. Matt and his family appealed this decision after months and months of hard work and in 2009, he went all the way through Marine Corps basic training again and graduated.

Matt was assigned to the 4th Assault Amphibious Battalion where he qualified as a trainer on multiple heavy weapon systems and would eventually become a Crew Chief at the rank of Sargent. Operating in this leadership role gave him the opportunity to develop his teaching skills with his fellow marines.

In 2011, Matt went through DCJS sheriffs department training and worked in a correctional facility for a year. He currently serves as one of ADC’s senior firearms and tactics instructors and takes pride in being able to adapt to the different students that walk through the door.

”My goal is for the student to not just to learn the material, but find ways to improve on what they have learned… To have a mindset that always seeks a better way of doing it.”
