Have a court deadline, attorney request, probation requirement, or other urgent need to complete firearm-safety training?
Located in Norfolk, Applied Defense Concepts provides court-ordered and expedited firearm-safety training for clients throughout Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, Newport News, and the greater Hampton Roads area.
Our training is conducted by experienced NRA- and USCCA-certified firearms instructors and can be arranged for two different needs:
-
If you have been instructed by a court, attorney, probation officer, employer, or other authority to complete firearm-safety training, contact us with the requirements you were given.
We can provide individualized instruction covering topics such as safe firearm handling, storage, transportation, basic operation, and responsible firearm ownership, with documentation of completion when appropriate.
-
If your requirement is specifically to complete qualifying training for a Virginia Concealed Handgun Permit, we can also provide in-person instruction and documentation meeting applicable Virginia handgun-competency training requirements.
These are separate training needs, so please let us know exactly what you have been asked to complete.

Same-day and short-notice appointments may be available depending on instructor availability. Contact us with your deadline as soon as possible so we can determine whether we can accommodate you.
-
Requirements can vary by court, case, probation condition, attorney instruction, or other requesting authority. You are responsible for confirming the type of training, number of hours, format, and documentation you have been required to complete.
If you were given written training requirements, send them to us before your appointment so we can determine whether our training is appropriate.
-
Yes. When applicable, students completing the required training will receive documentation of completion.
If your court, attorney, probation officer, or other requesting authority requires a particular form of documentation, please tell us before training.
-
Not necessarily.
A court or other authority may require firearm-safety education for reasons unrelated to obtaining a concealed handgun permit.
Virginia also has specific requirements for demonstrating handgun competence when applying for a concealed handgun permit. Applied Defense Concepts has NRA- and USCCA-certified firearms instructors and can provide qualifying in-person firearm training when concealed-handgun-permit training is what you need.
Tell us what you have been asked to complete so we can help determine which type of training is appropriate.
-
Virginia law recognizes several methods of demonstrating competence with a handgun, including qualifying NRA or USCCA firearms-safety or training courses and in-person firearms training conducted by NRA- or USCCA-certified instructors.
Eligibility for a concealed handgun permit involves additional legal requirements beyond completing training. Completion of training by itself does not guarantee that an applicant is legally eligible for a permit.

Contact us and select “Not Sure” on the inquiry form.
If you received paperwork describing the required training, have that information available. We can help identify whether the requirement appears to involve firearm-safety education, concealed-handgun-permit training, or another type of instruction, but we cannot interpret a court order or provide legal advice.
ADC provides firearm training, not legal representation. If your situation involves firearm rights restoration, criminal charges, or permit eligibility, speak with a qualified Virginia attorney.
