About Your Instructors

Kevin Tomas

Kevin Tomas, co-owner and instructor at Applied Defense Concepts, has over 20 years of experience in various fighting systems, including combatives, edged weapons, and multiple firearms platforms. He became a firearms instructor in 2012 and since 2014, Kevin has worked in private security and investigations industry, becoming a licensed fugitive recovery agent and working in-field for over 10 years. He is currently a subject matter expert in personal-defense subjects, low-profile operations, intelligence gathering, close-quarters battle, de-escalation, and firearms training.

 

Matthew McGuinness

Matthew McGuinness, a senior firearms and tactics instructor at Applied Defense Concepts, served in the United States Marine Corps from 2010 to 2018, where he qualified as an expert marksman with the M-4 service rifle and became a crew chief at the rank of sergeant. He also worked in a correctional facility after completing DCJS sheriff's department training in 2011. Matthew is an NRA-certified instructor in multiple disciplines and takes pride in adapting his teaching methods to suit diverse students.
